Read the Most Paired Reading Event
Students from Waukon Junior High, East and West Elementary participated in their 3rd annual Read the Most Paired Reading Event on February 28, 2014. Students from the junior high and two elementary buildings paired up to spend the day reading print and eBooks together. This celebration commemorates Read Across America and Read the Most from Coast to Coast. The event is planned on Google Docs. Elementary teachers sign up for a scheduled time period to come over to Waukon Jr./Sr. High Library and have their students read with junior high students on netbooks and print books. Lisa prepares junior high students by going in the classroom and instructing students on using eBooks and models how to read with younger peers. Students love the event and look forward to it every year.
The impact of the event can best be summarized by some of the statements made by the students participating in the program. Some of these included the following: “We should do this every day!” “It was the best time ever!” “The elementary kids are good readers!” “They got to hear how good we could read!” “We got to do fun puzzles about the stories we listened to on the netbooks!”
