IASL Conference April 15-16, 2012 - Barbara Stripling Keynote!
The IASL Conference Planning Committee is delighted to announce that Barbara Stripling will be the keynote speaker for third annual IASL spring
conference.
Stripling is well-known for her Inquiry Model, was a school librarian for 20 years, and recently left
her job as Director of the New York City Library Program to become a faculty member at Syracuse University. She is a
former president of AASL, and is currently running for president of ALA. We are very fortunate to have her coming to
Iowa.

Inquiry Through the School Library (1 credit-either graduate or relicensure available)
November 1 through March 6 This class will take place over the ICN (4 – 6 PM) with Moodle segments. Facilitators
will be Cheryl Carruthers, AEA 267 and Karen Lampe, Danville/New London CSDs Inquiry learning
(also known as problem-based or resource-based learning) is a focus of the Iowa Core Curriculum (ICC). In this class, a lesson/unit
plan that is inquiry based and involves a collaboration between a classroom teacher and a teacher librarian will be developed.
Course content includes the Characteristics of Effective Instruction (CEI) with a special emphasis on inquiry-based learning.
An information problem-solving model will be used as a scaffold for the inquiry process. Registration is

Best Picture Books by the youth services subdivision. The IASL Subdivision Business meeting is 4:30 on Thursday.
